THE Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) is ready to respond to any form of calamities at any time.
This assurance was made by Mayor Honey Lacuna, as she commended MDRRMO Director Arnel Angeles for his team’s readiness in responding to all kinds of calamities, even outside of the city.
“Maari po ninyong tignan ang ating command center. Kumpleto po doon ang kagamitan na kailangan sa oras ng sunog, baha, storm surge, bagyo o lindol,” Lacuna said at yesterday’s regular flagraising ceremony in City Hall.
The lady mayor also stated how proud she is of the MDRRMO personnel for having gone beyond what is mandated of them, like when she dispatched them to help in calamities-stricken areas outside of Manila, using all technologies and equipment that are made available to them through the support of the Manila city government.
Angeles, for his part, confirmed the mayor’s pronouncements, saying the MDRRMO, on orders of Lacuna, recently extended assistance to Abra, which was the hardest-hit by a recent earthquake.
“Nakipagtulungan tayo sa lokal nilang pamahalaan upang makapagsagawa ng Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment sa kanilang probinsya. Hindi nahuhuli ang Maynila sa pagtulong sa iba. Marahil sa kadahilanang ito, maari na nating bansagan ang MDRRMO ang tanggapan ng laging saklolo.” Angeles said.
He also said that in coordination with various agencies of the national government, the academe and non- governmental organizations, the MDRRMO was able to implement its disaster plans.
Angeles added: “Alinsunod sa Republic Act 10121, ang mga nabanggit na plano, particular ang Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan, Climate Change Adaptation Plan, Comprehensive Land Use Plan na kaakibat namin ang City Planning and Development Office at Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan na kasama natin ang Liga ng mga Barangay ang magiging gabay at susi natin patungo sa pagkamit ng parangal na Gawad Kalasag at Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) na matagal nang naging mailap sa Lungsod ng Maynila. Sa pakikiisa ninyong lahat, buong kumpiyansa po naming masasabing maisasakatuparan po natin ito. Malapit na, konting push na lang.” (Baby Cuevas)
