PRESIDENTIAL aspirant Mayor Isko Moreno announced that soon, face-to-face classes will be held in Manila.
Moreno, in an interview with the Manila City Hall Reporters’ Association (MACHRA), said that he has approved several schools who applied for the holding of face-to-face classes.
“Marami na akong inaprubahan na schools sa Maynila. Para maiba naman ang environment ng mga bata,” Moreno said, noting that 13,692 public and private schools are currently participating in the progressive expansion phase of face to face classes, or 78.3% of the nominated schools.
The mayor said he trusts that school authorities will be able to implement the necessary regulations for the safety of the students.
“Hangga’t may impeksyon, may nakaambang panganib. But we can learn how to live with COVID and go back to our old lives safely. Tuloy pa rin lahat ng pag-iingat,” he said, although the number of COVID cases continues to decline.
Moreno said that as of weekend, the six hospitals in the city have reported an occupancy rate of only five percent while the Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital had an eight percent occupancy rate out of the 344 beds it has and the quarantine facilities have no patients at all.
“Thank you sa mga doctors, nurses and frontliners. Sa kanila ko utang na loob ‘yung mabisang pangangalaga sa mga patients, both COVID and non-COVID,” Moreno said.
Prior to Moreno’s announcement, the Department of Education (DepEd) reported that 17,479 public and private schools are nominated by regional offices to join the progressive expansion phase of face to face classes. As of March 28, 2022, 17,054 public and 425 private schools are said to be ready for it. (TSJ)
