MAYOR HONEY WANTS ONE PRODUCT FOR MANILA

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna announced she is currently in discussion with concerned individuals and getting opinions on what product can the city be best identified with, that its mere mention would automatically make one think of Manila.

“Ang Maynila kasi, walang “one product” unlike provinces na meron. We are discussing ano ba ang isang produkto na pag sinabi mo, maiisip mo ang Maynila,” she told the “Balitaan sa Harbor View” of MACHRA (Manila City Hall reporters’ Assn.).

This, according to Lacuna, is part of the city government’s efforts to promote tourism now that COVID-related restrictions are being eased little by little.

“Our designated tourism hubs do not only involve promoting places but also activities and festivities, pati goods,” said Lacuna.

The mayor also bared that the city government of Manila has already begun training tourist guides and calesa owners.

She added that the Congressmen of Manila are also being tapped for their help and that they have signified their willingness to support and assist the local government in boosting its tourism.

Lacuna cited that for one, third district Congressman Joel Chua has already signified his intention to help in developing tourist areas in the district he represents.

Apart from developing the “Quiapo Ilalim” which ha always been the destination of those seeking various kinds of native products both local and international tourists alike, Lacuna said that Chua has also vowed to develop the Muslim area also in Quiapo.

Meanwhile, Lacuna also announced that a ‘walking tour’ route or guide is being prepared by the city for the visitors of Manila, to include the Arroceros Park which she said now has a viewing deck overlooking the Quezon Bridge which connect to Quiapo. (JERRY S. TAN)
