Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna stressed that the no illegal vendor policy of the city government will remain all throughout the holiday season, as she advised illegal vendors to not even attempt to violate the said policy.
The mayor said she has standing orders for continous clearing operations in areas where vendors are not allowed, namely Divisoria, Recto, Blumentritt and Carriedo.
“Sa mga illegal vendors, ‘wag na po kayong magbaka-sakali pa. Bawal pa rin po ang illegal vendors. Meron lang pong specific lugar kung saan tayo pupuwedeng mangalakal,” Lacuna said when she guested at the MACHRA’s (Manila City Hall Reporters’ Association’s) Balitaan sa Harbor View, where she said that the city government’s policy about the issue remains the same.
“Diretso pa rin ang clearing operations naming, kaya kami ay nananawagan sa mga illegal vendors na ‘wag nang mag-bakasakali pa, dahil di ho kami titigil na araw-araw linisin ang Divisoria, Recto, Blumentritt at Carriedo nang sa gayon, mas madami po ang makakapunta at makapamili nang maayos sa areas na ito, maluwag kasi,” Lacuna said.
Meanwhile, Lacuna called on Manilans to take it upon themselves to wear face masks when they go to places where physical distancing cannot be observed properly, even if they are outdoor areas, saying COVID-19 is still around.
“Kapag ‘yung lugar di mapapanatili ang physical distancing, kailangan mag- mask. Isa po ‘yan sa tinututukan namin eh. Pero pag kayo naglibot, naka-facemask pa din ang mga tao. Hindi kailangan sabihan. Sa sarili nila siguro, gusto nila ligtas sila,” she said.
