MAYOR HONEY LEARNS BEST PRACTICES OF OTHER COUNTRIES IN ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE

MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna said that the C40 World Mayors Summit currently being held in Buenos Aires, Argentina has equipped her with the knowledge about the best practices of other countries when it comes to addressing the very serious problem of climate change and related issues.

Tondo Councilor Uno Lim, who joins Mayor Honey Lacuna in attending the C40 World Mayors’ Summit in Buenos Aires as head of the Manaila City Council’s international relations committee.

In addition to this,, Lacuna said the summit also focused on the important role that the local government plays in leading the efforts of providing protection for the environment.


In the said event, Lacuna also presented London Mayor and C40 chairman Sadiq Khan with a commemorative coin and stamp made in commemoration of Manila’s 450th founding anniversary last June 24.

Joined by Manila second district Councilor Uno Lim as head of the Manila City Council’s committee on international relations, Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Arnel Angeles, department of public services chief Kayle Amurao and Councilor Tol Zarcal, Lacuna said the summit would aid the city government largely in fighting climate change.

C40 has 96 member cities comprising 20 percent of the global economy and representing one twelfth of the world’s population.Mayors of C40 cities are on the leading edge of climate action, deploying a science-based and collaborative approach to help the world limit global heating and build healthy, equitable and resilient communities.


The C40’s focus is on fighting climate change and driving urban action that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks, while increasing the health, wellbeing and economic opportunities of urban citizens.

The summit was held in order to achieve the following: accelerated global action for those displaced by climate change; 24-7 carbon-free energy for cities programme and creation of 50 million green jobs by 2030.
