MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna led the distribution of the city government’s financial aid for students belonging to indigent families.
Assisted by Manila’s department of social welfare head Re Fugoso, Lacuna distributed a total amount of P3,370,000 to 674 beneficiaries coming from various districts of the city.
The city government assistance falls under the Educational Assistance Program (EAP), a locally-funded regular program under the MSWD.
It is aimed to provide P5,000 financial assistance for the educational needs of students belonging to marginalized families in the city.
Lacuna said the recipients who received their assistance at the San Andres Sports Complex were as follows: District 1 having 388 beneficiaries, P1,940,000; District 4 with 150 beneficiaries, P750,000; District 6 having 136 beneficiaries, 680,000.
According to Fugoso, the criteria for the selection of beneficiaries must come from enrolled students from elementary to Grade 11 and must be from indigent families.
She said that the requirements for the availment of the program are the following: social case study, barangay certificate of indigency, certificate of enrollment and picture of the child with the parent or parents. (TSJ)
