MAYOR Honey Lacuna called on the residents of Manila to help their local government solve the city’s flooding problems simply by practicing proper garbage disposal.
Lacuna said she had directed the department of public services (DPS) to conduct continuous declogging and cleaning of all waterways in order to prevent flooding.
In line with this, Lacuna also ordered a close and constant coordination with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) under whose jurisdiction the city’s flood control program falls.
The mayor said that the declogging of drainage mains and the cleanup of esteros are being done in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Alongside all these, Lacuna bared plans to upgrade streets, particularly those that have been left behind due to the elevation of national roads.
Lacuna assured that the city government is doing everything to address the problems that the residents and motorists encounter during flash floods and heavy downpour.
However, she stressed, all of the efforts to address the problem of flooding in the city will be put to naught if the residents will not cooperate and even contribute to the problem by throwing their wastes anywhere they want.
Lacuna reminded everyone of the oft-repeated saying, “ang basurang itinapon mo, babalik sa ‘yo.” (Baby Cuevas)
