Manila Rep. Joel Chua (3rd district) is seeking to give senior citizens from all over the country with 1,000 monthly financial assistance through a proposed bill filed in Congress.

“Patuloy nating isusulong ang panukalang ito—dahil ang malasakit para sa nakatatanda, walang pinipiling panahon,” the Congressman said, adding that senior citizens deserve all the help they can get from the national government.

He noted how much the senior citizens need such monetary assistance in their twillight years and that most of them are no longer capable of earning money the way they did during their younger years.

Chua added that the senior citizens usually need money for maintenance medicines on top of personal needs but that they are ashamed to ask help from family members or relatives or be a burden to them and as such, they end up not taking their needed medicines and also more sickly and in despair.

“Panahon man ng ulan o init, hindi dapat napapabayaan ang ating mga lolo’t lola,” Chua stressed.

He added that society must learn to give back to the elderly who spent their prime working and contributing to the progress of the nation, particularly the city where they belong.

In Manila alone, at least 200,000 senior citizens stand to benefit from the bill once it is enacted into law by Congress.

Called, “Tulong Para Kay Lolo’t Lola Bill,” Chua’s proposed bill seeks to provide the senior citizens with at least ?1,000 every month as additional support for their daily needs, especially medicines.
