Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo received Leyte 4th District Representative Richard Gomez at the Manila City Hall and expressed elation that the actor-turned politician is considering the system being employed in Manila as a template in governance.
Gomez was welcomed by Lacuna, Servo and tourism department chief Charlie Dungo and was welcomed by the lady mayor at her office where they met for about 45 minutes, to compare notes and tackle various issues regarding local governance.
It was learned that Gomez was supposed to have gone to the Manila City Hall with his wife, Ormoc Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez, but the latter was indisposed and thus not able to make it to the appointment as previously scheduled.
Lacuna said Gomez did some benchmarking and inquired about the city’s best practices. She and Servo were then presented by Rep. Gomez with a plaque of appreciation from Mayor Lucy Gomez.
Special focus was given by the lawmaker on the aspects of tourism and the operations of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) under its Director, Arnel Angeles.
After their talk, Lacuna directed Dungo to accompany Gomez to the city’’s new Clock Tower Museum.
From there, Angeles brought Gomez to the command center and briefed him on their operations.
Angeles briefed Gomez on how the command center works and the scope of work of the MDRRMO, which had been able to help during calamities even in areas outside of Manila, like when their team went to Abra recently, after it was hardest hit by an earthquake. (Baby Cuevas)
