A MAJOR street in the Chinatown area was lighted up by Mayor Honey Lacuna, Vice Mayor Yul Servo and third district Congressman Joel Chua on Thursday night, to the delight of its residents as well as business owners based there.
Lacuna and Servo led the lighting of San Fernando Street from San Fernando Bridge to Madrid Street in Binondo, in an effort to thwart criminality and ensure better safety for both pedestrians and motorists.
The said activity was graced by third district Congressman Joel Chua, City Engineer Armand Andres, City Electrician Randy Sadac and Manila third district Councilors Atty. Jong Isip, Tol Zarcal, Fe Fugoso, Terrence Alibarbar and Apple Nieto, among others and was highly applauded by residents who came in throngs to witness the event.
Lacuna said the city government will continue to light up as many streets as possible to keep its residents and passersby safe at all times, believing that darkness is an ally of criminal elements.
According to Andres, the group of Sadac installed ?34 set- 200watts led lights and 22 pieces of 30-foot lamp posts along the said area so that it is now well-lit.
The Binondo-based groups led by Nelson Guevarra of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FCCCII) and barangay authorities headed by chairman Jefferson Lau profusely thanked the mayor for lighting up the area, saying it gives the users a feeling of better confidence and safety.
Meanwhile, Lacuna yesterday suspended classes in all levels in Manila due to the rainfall advisory from PAGASA.
The suspension was pursuant to Department of Education Order No. 37, Series of 2022, dated September 1, 2022 and covers both face-to-face and online classes in both private and public schools. (Baby Cuevas)
