Mayor Honey Lacuna said that by next school year, students from certain public schools in Manila can expect bigger and better classrooms.
Lacuna announced that the Dr. Albert Elementary School (DAES) in Sampaloc is now 44.31 percent complete and may be ready by July 2023.
The other schools undergoing construction and which are nearing completion are the Manila Science High School at 59.21 percent and the Rosauro Almario Elementary School, 57.88 percent.
The new R. Magsaysay High School, meanwhile, is expected to be ready for the school year of 2024.
“We expect these schools to be finished in time for next school year. By then, hopefully, the schools being built will be ready,” she said.
The lady mayor said that with bigger classrooms already in place, the city also expects more enrollees. “Because there are too many classrooms as against the estimated enrollees. We have already calculated against the number of rooms,” Lacuna added.
During her visit to the DAES accompanied by City Engineer Armand Andres and City Electrician Randy Sadac, the mayor said that the huge and high tech classrooms are already in place.
Sturdy railings were also installed to prevent anyone from falling off, since the school building is ten stories high, as Lacuna notes that youngsters can be reckless in the midst of playfulness.
The mayor also bared that she had directed Andres to study the possibility of putting a passageway that would connect the DAES to the Dapitan Sports Complex where the students may have access to the swimming pool as well as the basketball and tennis courts, saying she herself learned tennis in the said sports complex.
