Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna has called on stall owners and vendors doing business in the city’s public markets to be responsible enough as to prioritize the health and safety of the public whom they serve.
Lacuna, it was learned, had also met with the personnel of markets and hawkers ‘offices to know their scope of responsibility and make them give and receive input to further improve their services.
The lady mayor said that the city government aims not only to make the services being provided in the public markets a lot better but moreso, protect all the legitimate vendors in the entire city.
She also assured that the city government will always be fair in its treatment of vendors.
Lacuna enjoined the support of city hall employees, particularly those involved in the operation of public market stall owners and vendors, to teach the said vendors to be responsible for the safety of their goods and their buyers.
“Hinihikayat ko din ang mga employes na turuan nating maging responsible ang stall owners at vendors, lalo na patungkol sa kaayusan at kalinisan ng kapaligiran,” she said.
Lacuna added: “Let us remind them na pagkain ang hina-handle o tangan nila kaya dapat, laging malinis ang kanilang kapaligiran dahil reflection din ito ng kanilang ibinebenta sa ating kababayan.”
The mayor pointed out that if a stall or vending place is clean, more buyers will be encouraged to patronize the public markets.
In order to better prove that they are selling clean food items, Lacuna said it would be best for stall owners and vendors to get the appropriate sanitary permits and health certificates from the city. (Baby Cuevas)
