Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco confirmed the successful return of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo to the Philippines.
Guo arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at approximately 1:30 AM on September 6 aboard a special government flight. Her return comes after a swift operation by Philippine immigration authorities in Jakarta, in coordination with their Indonesian counterparts.
Philippine immigration authorities in Jakarta ensured that Guo was able to board her flight back to the country. She was ordered returned to the Philippines by Indonesian Immigration after Indonesian Police arrested her in an apartment early morning of September 4.
Accompanying Guo on her flight back were Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos, Jr., and Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Rommel Marbil, among other officials. The private aircraft carried a total of eight passengers and three crew members.
Upon her arrival, the Bureau of Immigration immediately executed the mission order against Guo. According to Tansingco, she faces charges of undesirability and misrepresentation under Philippine immigration laws.
“The return of Alice Guo is a significant achievement for the Philippine justice system and highlights the effective collaboration between international counterparts and law enforcement agencies,” said Tansingco. “This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice prevails, no matter the boundaries,” he added.
The BI’s coordination with Indonesian authorities proved crucial in the capture of Guo, who had been evading Philippine law enforcement. After learning of her presence in Indonesia, Philippine immigration officials worked closely with Indonesian immigration and police to execute a manhunt that led to her swift arrest and deportation.
Guo remains under legal custody of the BI, while physical custody shall remain with the PNP. Tansingco also confirmed that she will undergo necessary medical checks and face inquest proceedings in the morning.
“We will continue to collaborate closely with the Department of Justice to ensure that cases like these are handled efficiently and swiftly,” Tansingco added, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
