Thus, Manila acting Mayor Yul Servo-Nieto described the participation of the Manila city government in the recently-concluded C40 World Mayors Summit in Buenos Aires where the city was represented by Mayor Honey, who was accompanied in the official function by Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Arnel Angeles, department of public service chief Kayle Amurao, City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan, Councilor Numero Uno Lim who is chairman of the Manila City Council’s committee on international relations and Councilor Tol Zarcal who is chair of the committee on environmental protection and climate change.
During the regular flagraising ceremony in City Hall, Servo-Nieto said that based on what he learned from Mayor Honey Lacuna, the city of Manila had been listed as an official member of the GCOM or Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and World Cities.
“The participation of Team Manila, led by our hard-working Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, was fruitful in the said summit where Sister Honey shared the simple preparations of our city for the effects of climate change,” he said. On the same occasion, Servo-Nieto announced also that the payout of allowances for all senior citizens in the entire city had been updated last week.
The acting mayor commended the Office of Senior Citizens’ Affairs office, the public employment service office, barangay bureau, city library and the offices of the City Budget, City Accountant and City Treasurer for their joint efforts in completing the said updated payout quickly. Servo-Nieto also reported that the city participated actively in the 35th anniversary of the Metro Manila Center for Health Development under the Department of Health, last October 14.
There, the active delivery of basic health services by the Manila Health Department headed by Dr. Pangan was given due recognition, he said.
Seertvo-Nieto also announced that the city government participated in the KASIMBAYANAN program launched by the Manila Police District where the role of the Church and community as partners of the police in maintaining peace and order and thwarting criminality and threats of terrorism was commended.
