ENDORSEMENTS are important but I am also happy going straight to the people and getting endorsed by them directly.
Thus said Aksyon Demokratiko presidential bet, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, as he expressed gratitude for all the support he had been getting from the ordinary citizens themselves.
“I am happy for those candidates who are getting endorsements. Gagaan ang buhay ng kampanya.
Ako, mas gusto ko sa tao diretso manggaling ang endorsement bilang ordinaryong mamamayan,” Moreno said.
He added: “Ikaw bilang botante, ang boto mo at ng malaking tao, pag binilang, parehong isang guhit lang ‘yun.”
Moreno said there is no denying that the endorsement of political and business groups is important for him however, the support of the masses themselves is of equal value.
“We will never stop or change our strategy. Kung ‘yung iba, dinadala ang mga tao sa kanila, tayo naman, pupunta sa mga tao. It is tedious, mahirap pero mas mahirap ang dinaranas ng tao,” Moreno said.
He cited first-hand knowledge of how people in certain parts of the country have no access to potable water and suffer from intermittent or no connectivity and power supply, among others.
“Hinihingal ang internet, ang kuryente me hika, sinisinok.
Kumakain ka biglang patay ang kuryente mga ten minutes bago bumalik. Tayo (in the metro) nangangarap ng big facilities samantalang sila basic necessities lang,” the mayor said.
Moreno described as a good learning process his campaign sorties that brought him to many parts of the country.
With all these firsthand knowledge, Moreno said he could not be duped or taken for a ride by any government official when it comes to problems facing those from far-flung areas, once he becomes President. (TSJ)
